A drying apparatus for a washing machine is provided to efficiently dry laundry by applying both a condensation drying method and an external air inflow method, and selecting an exhaust drying method when humidity of air supplied to a tub is high. A drying apparatus comprises a vent hole(119) one side of which is interconnected to a condensation duct(116) and the other end of which is interconnected to outside so as to inflow external air into the condensation duct; and a drain pipe opening and closing unit(151) for discharging fluid from a tub(131) to outside by selectively opening and closing a drain pipe(153). The drain pipe opening and closing unit contains an opening and closing member to selectively open and close the drain pipe, and a driving source to operate the opening and closing member. A sensor unit(117) is installed on the inner part of a drying duct(112) to measure humidity of the circulating air. A control unit(170) is installed to operate the drain pipe opening and closing unit when the sensor unit measures humidity of the air to be more than the level of predetermined level. |
