A method and a system for inspecting vehicles are provided to check a lower portion of the vehicle with high accuracy by taking an image of the lower portion of the vehicle and inspecting the image data. A sensor(10) detects an entering vehicle. A camera unit(20) includes a first camera for photographing a number plate and a second camera for photographing a lower portion of the vehicle. A vehicle number recognizing unit(66) processes the number plate image to recognize the vehicle number. A vehicle lower portion recognizing unit(67) recognizes a lower portion image. A database unit(64) stores vehicle information corresponding to the vehicle number, a reference image of the lower portion of the recognized vehicle, and information on wanted vehicles. A controller(62) detects the wanted vehicle and an abnormal state of the lower portion of the vehicle based on the wanted vehicle information and the reference image of the lower portion of the vehicle, respectively. A display unit(70) displays the image data of the vehicle from the first and second cameras and recognized results from the vehicle number recognizing unit and the vehicle lower portion recognizing unit. |
