#CMT# #/CMT# The method involves controlling an actuator such as electric motor, permitting vertical displacements (m1, m2) of a seat (1) with predefined power profile, where the power profile presents a variable characteristics representative of effort applied by the actuator for displacing the seat. The starting of movement of the actuator is detected, and a power value of the characteristics is measured. The measured value is compared to a set of predetermined values for determining the presence of an occupant and classifying the occupant based on their weight. #CMT# : #/CMT# An independent claim is also included for a device for detection and classification of an occupant on vehicle seat. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# Used for detecting and classifying an occupant e.g. child or adult, on a seat of a motor vehicle (claimed) for comfort adjustment, seat adjustment, massage or air-conditioning function, modification of trim of the vehicle, adjusting light or vibration dampers and for self-diagnostic of the seat based on usury. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The method permits to differentiate various types of occupation so as to classify the occupant according to various categories in a reliable and cost-effective manner without increasing sensor weight.
