A cupped or convex-shaped mucosal delivery tablet with a thin edge is provided to minimize contact with tongue or teeth, provide rapid hydration around the perimeter so as to swiftly adhere and conform to the contacting tissue, and have resistance to brittle fracture during manufacture, packaging, dispensing and handling. The tablet has at least one convex or cup-shaped surface and is characterized in that a ratio of tablet diameter D to the cup depth d(D/d) is 4-20 and a ratio of cup depth to edge thickness h(d/h) is greater than 0.75. The tablet comprises a bioadhesive composition, which includes a mixture of a polysaccharide and a polycarboxylated polymer, and an active ingredient.
