An image forming apparatus with a refill toner discrimination function is provided to prevent usage of a refilled toner cartridge by determining whether to refill a toner cartridge by using refill toner discrimination information recorded in a toner memory and display a state of the toner cartridge and inform a user of the state, thereby preventing deterioration of printed image quality and default of the image forming apparatus caused by usage of an illegally-circulated toner cartridge. An image forming apparatus(100) comprises the followings: a cartridge mounting unit(161) in which a toner cartridge, having a toner memory where refill toner discrimination information is recorded, is mounted; a display unit(130) for displaying a predetermined message on a screen according to the discrimination information recorded in the toner memory; and a control unit(180) which determines a state of the toner cartridge by reading out the discrimination information from the toner memory and outputs the message corresponding to the state of the toner cartridge.
