An opening/closing unit of a mobile terminal is provided to implement an automatic opening and closing operation without degrading the exterior of a mobile terminal due to not needing an operation key. The first sensor(111) senses a closed state of a pair of housings(101,102) and senses a start of an opening operation of the housings(101,102) in the closed state. A drive motor provides a driving force in a direction that the housings(101,102) are opened or closed. The second sensor(112) senses an opened state of the pair of housings(101,102) and senses a state of a closing operation of the housings(101,102) in the opened state. A controller operates the drive motor when the first or second sensor(111,112) senses the start of the opening or closing operation.
