A liquid crystal display device is provided to change a coefficient of elasticity and rotation viscosity of a liquid crystal layer to improve a response speed of liquid crystal. A liquid crystal display device includes first electrodes such as gate and data lines, thin film transistors and pixel electrodes(191) of a first substrate(100), and second electrodes such as color filters and common electrodes of a second substrate(200), wherein the first and second electrodes face each other. The first and second electrodes have a plurality of first and second cutaway parts(91,92a/71,72a) disposed alternately. A liquid crystal layer(3) is positioned between the first and second electrodes and aligned vertically. The liquid crystal layer has a dielectric anisotropy in the range from -4.6 to -3.3, a coefficient of elasticity in the range from 12.5Î10^-12N to 16.5Î10^-12N, and rotation viscosity in the range from 45mPa to 140mPa. A ratio between the coefficient of elasticity and the rotation viscosity is in the range from 3.7(Î10^12) to 8.5(Î10^12). |
