CORTICAL BONE CERVICAL SMITH-ROBINSON FUSION IMPLANT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an implant substantially consisting of a cortical bone which is used in cervical Smith-Robinson vertebral fusion procedures.

SOLUTION: The implant is obtained from allograft or autograft cortical bone sources, is cut to form the symmetrical or unsymmetrical (for example, substantially D-shaped) implant having a canal to penetrate the inside according to the method is inserted into a space between the adjoining cervical vertebrae and supports those adjoining vertebrae to induce fusion of the adjacent vertebrae. The duct of the implant is packed with an osteogenic material, an osteoinductive material or an osteoconductive material to promote the vertebrae fusion and to enable the spontaneous endosteal growth.
