PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for recovering sensible heat of coke oven gas in high efficiency, keeping valuable tar component as it is and preventing the leak of coke oven gas to outer atmosphere. SOLUTION: Coke oven gas is brought into direct contact with DME and/or methanol to decompose the DME and/or methanol with steam existing in the coke oven gas and the sensible heat of the coke oven gas of this state is recovered in the form of chemical energy.
