PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain agomelatine (N-[2-(7-methoxy-1-naphthyl)ethyl]acetamide)exhibiting useful characteristics with respect to pharmacological preparations. SOLUTION: The crystalline form IV of a compound of formula (I) is characterized by its powder X-ray diffraction diagram. The pharmacological composition comprises a combination of the crystalline form IV of agomelatine as an active ingredient and one or more kinds of physiologically acceptable inert and non-toxic carriers.
