PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a new epoxy-group-containing phosphorus compound able to efficiently and inexpensively produceα-epoxy phosphonic acid and esters of the same and be suitably used as an industrial method by using an easily available compound as a raw material with overcoming defects which conventional methods for producing theα-epoxy phosphonic acid esters have. SOLUTION: The epoxy-group-containing phosphorus compound expressed by general formula (R1and R2express each H or a hydrocarbon group; Z1and Z2express each a hydroxyl group, a hydrocarbon group or a hydrocarbyloxy group) is produced by reacting a phosphorus compound having an ethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbon group with hydrogen peroxide or a hydroperoxide.
