New ruthenium or osmium catalysts with an imidazolidine ligand and a phosphoniocarbene ligand, used for metathesis of nitrile rubber to give degraded rubber for production of hydrogenated nitrile rubber

Ruthenium or osmium catalysts with an optionally substituted imidazolidine ligand and a phosphoniocarbene ligand are new. Catalysts of formula (I) are new. M : ruthenium or osmium; X 1>, X 2>anionic ligands; R 1>, R 2>, R 3>organic residues; Im : an optionally substituted imidazolidine residue; A : an anion. Independent claims are included for (1) a method (M1) for the degradation of nitrile rubber by a metathesis reaction in presence of (I); and (2) a method (M2) for the production of hydrogenated nitrile rubber by hydrogenating the degraded rubber obtained from M1.
