The device has a magnetic field sensitive component part (5) arranged in an air gap (20) of a magnetic circuit for measuring magnetic field produced by an electrical conductor. Two control cores (3a, 3b) are arranged for controlling the air gap in the air gap of the magnetic circuit. The control cores have control windings (4a, 4b) for magnetically saturating the control cores for controlling an effective length of the air gap, where the component part is arranged between the control cores. An independent claim is also included for a method for measuring current that flows in an electrical conductor.
