A removable, optically transparent test surface (2) is placed on a foil (3) supported on supply and receiving mechanisms (4). A UV light source (5) illuminates ultraviolet (UV) light to the foil and test surface. Both supply and receiving mechanisms and/or test surface have electrically conductive elements. Vacuum pressure is applied to retain the test surface on the foil. A spray gun (1) or rotating atomizer applies the lacquer or varnish to the test surface. An independent claim is also included for a method for examining quality of lacquer materials.
