A data recording system (1) is provided with a file generating section (3), which divides digital dada to generate a plurality of data files and successively recording the files in a recording medium (5); a management file judging section (6), which decides one management file for recording management information of the data files; and a management information generating section (4), which records the management information of the data files in the decided management file. The management file judging section (6) decides the management file to have the number of data files to be managed by the management file not over a maximum data file number (L) (L is a natural number). Thus, digital stream data can be recorded so that management of the data files, which are recorded by being divided into the data files, is facilitated.
