PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for a hydrogen engine capable of satisfying all demands of emission performance, fuel economy performance and maximum torque. SOLUTION: An engine controller 15 executes EGR control and air fuel ratio control of the hydrogen engine 1 by controlling a throttle valve 4, a fuel injection valve 5 and an EGR valve 12 with using air flow rate, excess air ratioλ(air fuel ratio), EGR valve opening and engine speed as control information. The engine controller 15 executes air fuel ratio control to keep air fuel ratio at lean air fuel ratio (λ=2) leaner than theoretical air fuel ratio and stops supply of EGR in a low torque range. Air fuel ratio control to keep air fuel ratio at lean air fuel ratio (λ=2) and supply of EGR are executed in a middle torque range. Air fuel ratio control to keep air fuel ratio at theoretical air fuel ratio (λ=1) is executed in a high torque range. Supply of EGR is optional in the high torque range. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
