ACETOACETIC-ESTER-GROUP CONTAINING POLYVINYL ALCOHOL RESIN, RESIN COMPOSITION AND USE THEREOF

A novel acetoacetic-ester-group containing polyvinyl alcohol resin that is less in the amount of matter insoluble in water, excelling in the transparency and viscosity stability in the form of an aqueous solution, and that by joint use of a crosslinking agent, realizes excellent water resistance. There is provided an acetoacetic-ester-group containing polyvinyl alcohol resin characterized by containing any of structural units of the general formula: (1) wherein at least one of R<SUP>1</SUP> and R<SUP>2</SUP> is an acetoacetyl group; each of R<SUP>3</SUP>, R<SUP>4</SUP>, R<SUP>5</SUP>, R<SUP>6</SUP>, R<SUP>7</SUP> and R<SUP>8</SUP> independently is an arbitrary substituent; and X is a single bond or an arbitrary bonding chain.
