<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform efficient heating of refrigerant or water while preventing breakage of a heater in a heater to be mounted on an air conditioner adapted to perform defrosting operation while continuing heating operation. <P>SOLUTION: This heater comprises a heater part 2 provided within a casing 1 and a pipe 4 spirally wound around the heater part to run refrigerant or water in the inner part. The circumference of the heater part 2 and the pipe 4 is filled with or covered with a metal, and the inlet side of the pipe 4 is located on a side opposite to the inlet side of the heater part 2 so that the pipe 4 is opposed to the heater part 2. According to this, heat of the heater part 2 is efficiently transferred to the refrigerator or water, and sudden cooling of the heater part 2 with the refrigerant or water is prevented.
