PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dampening water composition for lithographic printing by which isopropyl alcohol can be completely substituted and stable printing can be carried out without generating the problems such as the stain, blinding and emulsification of a printing plate and failure in ink deposition to the plate. SOLUTION: The dampening water composition for lithographic printing includes a compound constituted by adding ethylene oxide and propylene oxide to ethylene diamine and having a weight-average molecular weight of 500 to 1,500, at least one kind of water soluble polymer compound selected from the group consisting of (I) a starch based water soluble polymer compound modified by an alkyl group, (II) a cellulose based water soluble polymer compound modified by an alkyl group, and (III) a water soluble polymer compound derived from vinyl polymerization of an unsaturated monomer including a vinyl group, and a compound showing by general formula (1): R<SP>1</SP>-O-(CH<SB>2</SB>CHR<SP>2</SP>O)n-H, wherein R<SP>1</SP>is a 4C alkyl group, R<SP>2</SP>is hydrogen or a methyl group, and n is 1.
