The unit has a snap disk (70) formed from a flat material and held in a retainer, and an actuating tappet (38). The snap disk is formed from spring steel, and the retainer is formed from plastic. The snap disk reversibly bounces from one position into another position by the effect of the actuating tappet transverse to a surface of the snap disk. The retainer includes two retaining units that overlap the disk and limit the movement of the disk toward the tappet. An independent claim is also included for an accelerator pedal mechanism for controlling an engine unit of a motor vehicle, comprising a kick down unit.
