The exchanger (1) has pipe bundle (5) comprising a set of pipes (4) for guiding exhaust air (3), and a supply channel (8) for guiding fresh air (2) around the pipes, where the channel accommodates the bundle. A longitudinal end (10, 11) of each of the pipes is detachably inserted into a cavity of perforated sheets (12, 13), and a wall section of an area closed up to a supply air inlet and a supply air output is formed in the sheet. The bundle is detachably fastened together with the sheets in the channel. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a pipe heat exchanger.
