A packaging process applies an upper film (10) and a lower film (7) to a product. The lower film is deep-drawn to form a container for the product which following insertion is covered by the upper film. The package is then passed on to a vacuum-forming and sealing station. After the sealing process, the entire package is exposed to further heat treatment to effect further foil shrinking, eliminating surplus foil between the deep-drawn container rim and the product. Also claimed is a commensurate assembly.
