A telematics module (TM) receives weather forecast temperature or other meteorological data from a separate server, and uses these as well as the load balance of the battery and other predicted temperature gradient to calculate the efficiency of the starting battery (3). The calculated efficiency is compared with the take-off power of the engine (1) to judge whether the efficiency is enough for safe starting of the engine. The module alerts the user's mobile phone (4) via e.g. short message service (SMS), if the compared efficiency is judged not to be sufficient enough.
