The seal has sealing arrangement connected with a housing of a transmission expander or compressor to seal impellers rotating in the housing. The arrangement has sealing spikes (15) arranged in three successively lying sealing sections, and ring chambers (12, 12`) are arranged between the sections. The chamber (12) facing the interior of the expander is provided with a supply of a sealing gas, whose pressure is higher that the pressure in the interior of the expander. The chamber (12`) turned away to the interior is provided with an extraction of the gas : An independent claim is also included for a transmission expander or transmission compressor with a shaft seal.
