PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plated steel sheet for a battery case preventing increase in contact resistance by keeping sufficient adhesion between the inner surface of a battery case and a positive mix even after storage of a battery for a long time, and obtaining excellent high rate discharge characteristics by enhancing conductivity in an alkaline electrolyte. SOLUTION: The plated steel sheet for the battery case is obtained in such a way that nickel plating is applied to the side functioning as the inner surface of the battery case of a steel sheet or heat treatment is applied in a nonoxidative atmosphere after nickel plating, cobalt-tungsten alloy plating or nickel-cobalt-tungsten alloy plating is applied, or after nickel plating is applied, cobalt-tungsten alloy plating or nickel-cobalt-tungsten alloy plating is continuously applied, and then heat treatment is applied in the nonoxidative atmosphere to obtain the plated steel sheet for the battery case, and the plated steel sheet is worked in the battery case and used in a battery.
