The device has an ink inlet (7), a doctor blade box (3), and operating doctor blades (5, 6) that are assigned to the box and that are consecutively arranged axially parallel to a roller e.g. screen roller (1) in a rotary direction of the roller. The ink inlet is arranged in front of the blades, where the blade (5) arranged before the last blade (6) includes several uniformly distributed ink outlets. A closing doctor blade (4) is flexibly attached to a surface of the roller and arranged in front of the blades (5, 6). An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a device for inking a roller in a rotary printing press.
