PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable an instant messaging service to be freely used at any time in an environment capable of using the instant messaging service, at an arbitrary location capable of connecting the Internet without necessity of a source to be conscious of a presence status of a receiving end. SOLUTION: A terminal A2 starts an instant message dedicated software 4 when sending an instant message 6 to a terminal B3 in the environment capable of using the instant messaging service at the arbitral location capable of connecting the Internet 1. Even when the presence status of the terminal B3 is off-line, a presence server 5 receives the instant message 6, and temporarily holds the instant message 6 inside the system. When the presence status of the terminal B3 can be detected to have transitioned to the off-line, the instant message 6 stored inside the system is delivered to the terminal B3.
