A method for supplying connecting elements (CE's) to processing apparatus, by conveying CE's individually from a supply device through a conveying channel to a loading device on the processing apparatus, involves a first stage in which CE's are conveyed to an intermediate reservoir near the loading device and a second stage in which CE's are conveyed from the intermediate reservoir into the loading device. An independent claim is included for corresponding apparatus for supplying connecting elements (CE's) to a processing device (1), comprising a supply device (7); a conveying channel (6) connecting the supply device to a loading device (5) on the processing device; and an intermediate reservoir (12) downstream of the loading device, for receiving CE's supplied through the channel and having at least two storage chambers, each with an inlet opening and an outlet opening. The section of the conveying channel leading to the supply device can be connected to either of the inlet openings of the storage chambers; and the section of the channel leading to the loading device can be connected to either of the outlet openings.
