PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device and its drive method that can optimize both the black brightness and white brightness. SOLUTION: This device has gate lines 105-1 to 105-m arranged corresponding to the row arrangement in the pixel circuit, capacitor wiring 106-1 to 106-m arranged corresponding to the row arrangement in the pixel circuit, a vertical drive circuit 102 to selectively drive the gate lines and capacitor wiring, and a generator circuit 104 to generate a common voltage signals of a small amplitude changing its level at a predetermined cycle. Each pixel circuit includes a liquid crystal cell LC201 having a first and second pixel electrodes and a sustaining capacitor CS201 having a first and second pixel electrodes. The first electrode of the liquid crystal cell and the first electrode of the sustaining capacitor are connected to an end of the TFT, and the second electrode of the sustaining capacitor is connected to the capacitor wiring of the row it matches, then the common voltage signal is applied to the second pixel electrode of the liquid crystal cell.
