The method involves evaluating a difference between an actual-performance value and a target-performance value, where the target-performance value is provided by a control device. The difference between the values is determined by a differential filter. The determined difference is compared with a stored difference, which is considered as a usual difference for the tuning measure during the evaluation. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program programmed for using in a method for detecting an external tuning-measure (2) an electrical storage medium for a control unit of an internal combustion engine (3) a control unit for an internal combustion engine.
