The lightning rod [1] is connected by an electrical conductor [2] to an earthing block [3]. The conductor is embedded in isolation material [4] that is a polymer matrix with zinc oxide powder. This is then covered by a layer of material [5] having a non linear electrical resistance characteristic. Metal end caps [6,7] enclosed the assembly.
