An assembly safety device (1) has two locking elements individually provided on two telescoping steering column sections (3,4). Both locking elements have bindings (9.1,10) connected individually to the column sections. One of the locking elements has a connecting link with two spaced apart fixed hooks. The hooks are selectively engageable to the counter hook of the other locking element.
