PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for discriminating a seaweed culturing method facilitating review of optimal culturing condition for seaweeds such as naturally growing species whose culturing method is not established: and a method for discriminating a seaweed culturing method. SOLUTION: The device for discriminating a seaweed culturing method is provided with a water tank where a seawater level can be regulated, at least a single floating-type seaweed holder placed in the water tank and following the seawater level, and a fixed-type seaweed holder not following the seawater level and having fixed height. The method for discriminating a seaweed culturing method comprising using the device, wherein the seawater level in the water tank is altered in an optional cycle to compare the seaweeds growing in the seawater at the floating-type seaweed holder, to the seaweeds growing in the seawater and also on the sea surface in accordance with the cycle at the fixed-type seawater holder.
