The invention relates to the use of iron (III) complex compounds comprising carbohydrates or derivatives of the latter for producing a medicament for the oral treatment of conditions caused by an iron deficiency in patients with chronic inflammatory intestinal diseases, in particular Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
