The fitting has three fitting parts (209, 211, 214), where the part (211) is provided to adjust the inclination of a backrest of a vehicle seat between several usage positions. The part (214) is rotatable to centrically and freely swivel the backrest relative to the part (211). The part (214) is lockable on an internal side of the fitting by a locking latch (232) and a locking ring (235). A lever (274) is provided on an external side of the fitting to control the operation of the locking latch and the locking ring. The lever is pivotably supported on the part (214). An independent claim is also included for a vehicle seat with a backrest and a metal fitting for inclination adjustment of the backrest.
