<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods and compositions for antisepsis, disinfection or sterilization, More particularly, to provide methods and compositions that remain inactive as packed for storage, becomes active on exposure to air as an antiseptic, disinfectant or sterilizer when dispensed for use. <P>SOLUTION: The method provided is for killing or inhibiting the growth of microorganisms and comprises the following steps: (a) a step for maintaining, under substantially anaerobic conditions, a microbicidal composition comprising a haloperoxidase, a halide, and a peroxide generator capable of generating a peroxide when exposed to oxygen; (b) a step for exposing the composition to oxygen to activate microbicidal activity of the composition; and (c) a step contacting the microorganisms with the activated composition to kill or inhibiting the growth of the microorganisms. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
