PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an editing device which can execute editing operation and writing to a recording medium in parallel and write moving-image/voice data of MPEG format, whose sizes are variable in units of frames, to continuous areas, and also provide a method therefor. SOLUTION: When parts of recorded segments seg3 and seg4 are rewritten with a seg6 and edited, a segment 6 and the subsequent segments are regarded as unrecorded segments (Figure 6(B)). When "Writing only this segment" is selected in a GUI dialogue, only the seg6 is recorded to an optical disk medium and the seg6 becomes a recorded segment (Figure 6(C)). When "Writing all the remaining segments" is selected, the seg6, a seg4' and a seg5 are recorded to the optical disk medium and become the recorded segments (Figure 6(D)).
