PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bank bill carrying device for preventing the breakage of a positioning means for positioning a carrying roller at an initial position. SOLUTION: The carrying roller 71 is positioned at the initial position with the engagement of an engaging portion 101 of a sensor lever 100 with a cutout 86 of a reverse rotation restricting wheel 85 which is rotated integrally with the carrying roller 71 for carrying bank bills. The sensor lever 100 is rotatably supported in an oblong hole 94a of a first supporting portion 94 of a supporting member 91 via a supporting shaft 95. A second torsional coil spring 93 energizes the sensor lever 100 to restrict its rotation in the opposite direction to the bank bill carrying direction of the carrying roller 71. When the engaging portion 101 engages with the cutout 86, the supporting shaft 95 is slightly moved in the oblong hole 94a against the torsional moment of the second torsional coil spring 93 by the rotational inertia of the carrying roller 71.
