SOLUTION: This method, includes the step of determining Y coordinate for each x coordinate along an interface between layers of the vessel, including: a process (626) for determining the central Y coordinate of a center of an intima-media center (IMC); a process (628) for determining the Y coordinate of the adventitia-media interface; a process (630) for determining the Y coordinate of the intima-lumen interface; a process (632) for determining a Y coordinate corresponding to each X coordinate along the lumen-intima interface; a process (634) for determining an Y coordinate corresponding to each X coordinate along the media-adventitia interface; a process for determining the thickness of at least one vessel layer using X coordinate and Y coordinates of each layer interfaces; and a process for outputting these thicknesses to a display.
