The expansion valve has a valve seat (15) and the valve unit (14) which are arranged such that they provide a sufficient sealing of the throttle unit between the high and low pressure sides (13,16), in the closed condition of the valve. The transfer of condensing refrigerant from the high pressure side to the low pressure side of the valve is then restricted in the switched-off state of the valve.
