The backrest has a crash locking device (15) with a locking holder (16) that is hinged at a rest part (6). The locking device has a U-shaped retainer (20) that is arranged on a frame extension (8). The retainer has lower and upper jaws (24, 26) for the locking holder that shows forward and is restricted to a jaw space (22). The jaws release when slowly folding down the rest part by gravitational force, and are out-movable from the jaw space of the retainer. The jaws are locked when fast folding down or fast forward deflection of the rest part during a frontal crash in the jaw space.
