The method and the system can be applied for establishing a connection with a mobile set (5) of a subscriber located in a visited public land mobile network (VPLMN). According to the method the subscriber in VPLMN prepares a short message (11), for example an unstructured supplementary service data message (USSD) transmitting the dialed number. The message (11) is then transmitted to a callback computer (47) which establishes a connection between the mobile set (5) and the desired number. In addition, before the connection, is established, the remaining credit and airtime of the mobile subscriber set (5) is verified in a prepaid module (45) connected to the callback computer (47) with the aid of one telephone tariff table (45) and on the basis of a location of said subscriber stored in the home location register (HLR) of the home public land mobile network for the location of the said subscriber.
