Method and device for manufacturing a roving

Roving, especially for supplying a ring spinning machine, is produced by stretch-breaking fully drawn filament yarn and winding it up on a package. Preferably the package is cross-wound and the roving consolidated by false twisting with an air jet. Alternatively, partially oriented yarn can be fed to a draw zone followed by a cooling zone, a stretch-breaking zone and a wind-up. An independent claim is included for a stretch-breaking machine for filament yarn with individually driven rollers controlled at the appropriate speeds and a wind-up for producing cross-wound packages. Also included is a stabilizing air jet.
