The electronic radio communication equipment is able to switch between two modes of operation; an operational mode and a standby mode. In the operational mode the main functions of the equipment (11) are operational. In the standby mode, the equipment awaits an event which triggers the change to the operational mode. The system includes a low power consumption standby circuit (12) which is activated in the place of the main circuits (113,114) within the main operational chain. This ensures the detection of significant events which trigger the change to the operational mode. The standby circuit (12) includes a device (122) for periodic analysis of the signalling messages received by the apparatus. An intelligent selection module (1141) ensures the correct management of the standby and main circuits.
