A mobile terminal and a method for transmitting an image while using a mobile messenger service are provided to allow users to chat with the other party while watching the user of the other party in using a mobile messenger at a low speed communication network. An image collecting unit(110) collects image data. An image transmission data generating unit(120) generates an image transmission packet including the collected image. A packet data communication network interface unit(130) provides an interface with a packet data communication network. A controller(160) controls the image collecting unit(110), the image transmission data generating unit(120) and the packet data communication network interface unit(130) to collect images every pre-set period in response to a request for an image transmission inputted during a mobile messenger service and transmit them to the packet data communication network.
