An apparatus and a method for detecting a hook switch of a mobile terminal are provided to solve a problem that malfunction of the mobile terminal generated by whether headsets with different impedance are inserted due to being operated by a detection result obtained by detecting an ON/OFF state of a hook switch. An ON/OFF state of a hook switch is detected based on pre-set options(S200). When the hook switch is in an ON state, the first control signal is outputted and it is detected whether a headset is inserted(S210,S220). When insertion of the headset is detected, the second signal is outputted and an operation of a mobile terminal is controlled according to the first and second control signals(S230,S240).
