A method and an apparatus for displaying a traveling vehicle in a navigation system are provided to gradually vary the direction of the traveling vehicle by accumulating the rotation angle of the vehicle and determining the current rotation angle from the accumulated angles. An apparatus for displaying a traveling vehicle in a navigation system includes a position information receiver(51), a rotation angle detector(52), a memory unit(53), a controller(54), and a display unit(55). The memory unit stores map information. The controller determines the current position of a vehicle from position information, which is received through the position information receiver. The controller accumulates rotation angles from the rotation angle detector and determines the current rotation angle of the vehicle as the mean value of the accumulated result. The controller reads the map information from the memory unit and matches the current position and the current rotation angle on the map. The display unit receives the vehicle information, which is mapped on the map, and displays the map. |
