Aligned behavior in templated lists

A system for computing list element layout data comprises a processor programmed to compute list element layout data. Each of the list element layout data corresponds to a set of list element layout data. To compute list element layout data a template is selected, for each set of list element data, from a template set of at least two possible templates and an interface for use is provided by each of the templates. Each of the possible templates provides a corresponding layout policy for calculating a graphical layout of the subset of list element data. At least two of the corresponding layout policies provide for a graphical layout based on the location of at least one gridline. The interface provides information establishing the location of the at least one gridline. The system further comprises a display configured to render thereon the computed list layout data.
