Disclosed are organic compounds represented by the general formula I wherein: X is O; Y is [C(R2)2]c; R, R1, R2, -a, b and c are as disclosed in the specification; and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, capable of modulating tyrosine kinase signal transduction in order to regulate, modulate and/or inhibit abnormal cell proliferation in diseases such as cancer, blood vessel proliferative disorders e.g. arthritis, fibrotic disorders e.g. atherosclerosis, mesangial cell proliferative disorders and metabolic disorders e.g. diabetes mellitus.
