Disclosed herein is a thermoplastic composition having improved mechanical properties, consisting essentially of: a polycarbonate resin; a mineral filler; an acid or acid salt, wherein said acid comprises sulphuric acid or a phosphorus containing oxy-acid and wherein said acid salt is selected from the group consisting of: sulphites, mono zinc phosphates, mono calcium phosphates and mono natrium phosphate; optionally, an aromatic vinyl copolymer; and optionally, an impact modifier; wherein the acid or acid salt is present in the composition in a weight ratio of acid to filler of at least 0.0035:1.
